On 31st July – 1st August 2025, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted an official inspection at the manufacturing premises of Borealis Polymers Oy, located in Porvoo, Finland. The inspection was conducted as part of the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS) under BIS for Polypropylene Materials for Moulding and Extrusion, as per IS 10951:2020.
The inspection was led by Ms. Suneeti Toteja, Scientist F & Head of the Food & Agriculture Department at BIS, accompanied by the representatives from both KMA and Borealis. The primary objective of the visit was to check the production facilities and test the competency of testing personnels and to assess the workability of testing equipment required to test the relevant testing parameters of PP as per IS 10951: 2020.
During the two-day visit at the factory site, the BIS officer inspected the manufacturing machinery, checked raw materials and their CoA’s, examined the entire process flow chart along with the detailed process description, and investigated the factory layout plan.
During the inspection, major emphasize was given to the in-house testing capabilities and further examining the required calibration certificates of the test equipment. The lab team showed great spirit and explained precisely how they performed critical tests that showed that they are fully capable of complying and adhering well with the parameters of testing laid down by the IS 10951:2020.
To ensure that independent testing at BIS-approved labs in India goes smooth and accurate, product samples were collected and sealed under the guidance and supervision of BIS officer using brass seals and melted wax. From factory test reports to declarations and annexures, all the relevant documentation was thoroughly reviewed by the BIS officer and accordingly, they were signed by authorized representatives of the Borealis Team.
At the closure meeting which marked the conclusion of the inspection, it was noted that the BIS officer gave her detailed observations made during the inspection and also briefed regarding the next steps to be taken in order to proceed forward in the process of BIS licencing. The officer & KMA representative also acknowledged the cooperation and warm welcoming extending to them during the inspection. Overall, the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from each side and future course of action.
