INEOS Singapore PTE Ltd is one of the world's largest manufacturers of Acetone and Phenol, located on Jurong Island, Singapore. To expand its global reach, the company is also interested in exporting both products to India. Before exporting to India, the manufacturer must comply with the rules and regulations set by the Bureau of Indian Standards, a national body of India.
Accordingly, BIS conducted a special inspection at their factory premises for both Acetone and Phenol, as per the Indian Standards 170:2020 and 538:2020, respectively, as part of the process of granting a Certification Mark Licence (CM/L) under the Foreign Manufactures Certification Scheme of BIS.
Mr. Pravir Kr. Choubey, Scientist-D and Joint Director, FMCD, BIS, is the inspected officer who facilitated this inspection. The main agenda for this special inspection is to verify the final product storage tank for witnessing sampling at the final product tank, testing of the product & calibration status of testing equipments. The officer also confirmed the workability of the testing equipment and the competency of the testing personnel by conducting the Permanganate Test as per IS 170:2020.
During the inspection, the officer also verified the Quality Control and Assurance Department of the manufacturer. The calibration certification of all the testing equipment was also verified to determine the status of validity of calibration.
The officer found all parameters in line with the requirements of Indian Standards and the inspection was concluded and completed successfully. The officer collected all relevant inspection documents after completing the signature and stamping process. After a few months of completing all responsibilities to obtain a licence number, which allows the use of the ISI mark on products and clears the customs clearance, BIS granted the licence to the manufacturer.
